On July 22, 2026, PsiQuantum announced a $125 million expanded agreement with DARPA under the Quantum Benchmarking Initiative (QBI) — the company’s most valuable U.S. government award to date. Pair it with last month’s federal post-quantum cryptography mandate, and a clear picture emerges: Washington is now spending real money on quantum — on both the “build it” and the “defend against it” sides of the equation.
What the Deal Is
It’s a performance-based agreement funding the testing and validation of PsiQuantum’s utility-scale, fault-tolerant hardware designs. PsiQuantum is one of only two companies to reach QBI’s final Stage C. DARPA’s QBI director has said it now seems likely someone builds a utility-scale quantum computer by 2033.

The work funds facilities in Milpitas, California and Chicago, Illinois, where PsiQuantum is the anchor tenant at the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park (IQMP).
